JET 1 was a futuristic view from the past made possible by the Rover auto company. This retro modern design feels reminiscent of the current retro remakes by companies like Daimler Chrysler, Rolls Royce, and Ford, yet it’s conception began in 1946 when Rover started researching use of a small gas powered turbine engine suitable for automobile use. Unveiled in 1950 it was touted as the power source of the future and a technological triumph. Unfortunately the next thirty years of research would prove the turbine engine was too slow, unresponsive and too costly for it ever to become the future of the automobile industry.
